Ha enviat una carta de queixa per haver-los convidat a European Sustainable Energy Week on demana que es retiri la invitació
L’Associació Stop Macro Parc Eòlic Marí ha fet arribar a la comissió d’Energia de la Unió Europea encarregada d’organitzar l’European Sustainable Energy Week que se celebrarà a finals de setembre una carta de queixa per haver convidat al consorci Blue Float i Sener amb la intenció d’ exposar el cas “Parc Tramuntana” com a model de bones pràctiques, i per donar detalls del pla d’apropament al territori amb més de 200 reunions amb diferents agents locals, segons consta en la nota de premsa dels promotors. A banda de la carta, també s’ha adjuntat el manifest de la comunitat científica contrari al macro parc eòlic marí i l’estudi que un grup de científics van publicar recentment recomanant excloure i allunyar els parc eòlics marins de zones protegides de la Mediterrània. El document també s’ha fet arribar a tots els eurodiputats catalans.
En la carta, l’associació manifesta la seva sorpresa i preocupació després d’haver tingut coneixement de la invitació a través de la premsa. L’entitat recorda que “Stop macro parc eòlic marí” es va crear a finals de l’any passat amb l’objectiu de treballar perquè la Costa Brava no es converteixi en un polígon industrial de renovables i reitera que no té cap dubte que el futur són les energies renovables però amb un model descentralitzat, distribuït i amb parcs eòlics amb menys impacte i allunyats d’espais naturals protegits.
En la carta, l’associació manifesta que “des del territori no tenim constància que els promotors hagin celebrat més de 200 reunions amb representants dels agents de la zona; en tot cas, aquestes no s’han acreditat; i, el que és més important, el fet que hagin celebrat reunions en cap cas no suposa que aquestes acabin amb l’acceptació del projecte. Han estat reunions informatives on els promotors han exposat únicament les seves intencions”
D’altra banda, en el document s’esmenta com a exemple de mala praxis dels promotors que hagin publicat un suposat article científic on tots els autors tenen compromisos econòmics amb ells amagant aquest fet i manifestant enganyosament que no hi ha cap conflicte d’interessos a l’editorial encarregada de la seva publicació, Board of Journal of Marine Science and Engineering (MDPI). Aquest fet també ha estat denunciat per la plataforma als responsables de la publicació del suposat article científic.
L’associació acaba la carta dient que “com a ciutadans europeus entenem que és un greu error que uns promotors, que no dubten a utilitzar mètodes inadequats per imposar el seu projecte, puguin ser reconeguts com a exemple de “bones pràctiques” per part de la Comissió Europea. L’engany no ha de ser mai un valor i menys rebre un reconeixement. Per això, sol·licitem que es retiri la invitació a BlueFloat Energy i Sener a participar a l’esdeveniment assenyalat ja que la seva manera de procedir es contradiu frontalment amb el model que ha de fer compatible la transició energètica i conservació de la biodiversitat per combatre precisament el canvi climàtic. Si manté el reconeixement, es donaria un missatge totalment equivocat al territori i a la seva ciutadania, i comprometria la credibilitat de la Comissió Europea en aquest assumpte”.
Carta de l’Associació Stop Macro Parc Eòlic Marí a la comissió d’Energia de la Unió Europea:
Dear members of the European Energy Commission,
We are a citizen and a non-governmental association called “Stop Macro Parc Eòlic Marí” (CIF number G-16813800 and inscription number 70027 in the entities register of the Generalitat de Catalunya) that acts in defense of the environmental, cultural, and social values of the Costa Brava.
We would like to make you aware of our concern after receiving the surprising information that the EU has invited the consortium Blue Float and Sener to participate in the end of September in the European Sustainable Energy Week in order to present the case of Parque Tramuntana as a model of best practices. According to the promoter’s press release, they approached the region organizing more than 200 meetings with different local stakeholders.
The association Stop Macro Parc Eòlic Marí was created at the beginning of last year with the objective to avoid that the Costa Brava becomes an industrial park for renewable energy.
Our organization has no doubt about the relevance of renewable energies for the near future, but we are committed to a decentralized and distributed energy transition and, above all, to the installation of wind farms in regions with less impact and away of natural spaces.
In this sense we attach the report recently published by the scientific community in the journal Science of the Total Environment, where it is recommended to exclude and move these infrastructures away from the protected areas of the Mediterranean Sea, as is the case in hand. We are convinced that the energy transition cannot be done at the expense of biodiversity as the European Commission has defended itself in various documents. The reasons why we are surprised about this invitation are the following:
- The promoters propose a project in a marine area in which, according to current regulations, its installation is not allowed.
- From the region we have no evidence that the promoters have held more than 200 accredited meetings with representatives of the stakeholders of the area. In any case, the fact of having held several meetings does not mean that these conclude with the acceptance of the project. They have been only informative meetings where the promoters have exposed their intentions.
- The rejection of the Costa Brava citizens of how the promoters have carried out their strategy is demonstrated by the fact that our organization includes more than 40 entities from various fields (fisherman’s guilds, touristic and nautical associations, and environmental conservation groups among others). In addition, we have collected up to now more than 30.000 signatures and the affected citizens have held mass events and demonstrations. An example of the lack of transparency is that the promoters have refused to participate in debates organized by the media.
- The promoters have modified in different occasions the magnitude of the project since at this moment we do not know which are their decisions concerning basic issues like their production capacity, evacuation alternatives, and the burial of powerlines.
- More than 20 local authorities have approved in the municipal plenary sessions motions against the installation of the Parque Tramuntana, demonstrating the lack of an effective dialogue with the region.
- More than 100 prestigious scientists (research scientists in marine ecology and university professors) have published a manifesto against the current approach of the Tramuntana Park, showing up to which extent biodiversity in this area will be severely compromised (please find the document attached).
- Finally, and as an example of the promoter’s bad practice, they have recently published a supposed scientific article where all authors are economically engaged with the companies, hiding the fact and misleadingly claiming to have no conflict of interest as we have also denounced to the editorial board of the journal of Marine Science and Engineering (MDPI) in charge of its publication.
As European citizens we do not understand why the European Commission recognizes the promoters who do not hesitate to use inappropriate methods to impose their projects as an example of good practices. Deception should never be a value and much less receive recognition. Therefore, we request the withdrawal of the invitation of Blue Float and Sener to participate in the mentioned event, since its way of proceeding is in direct contradiction with the model that must make the energy transition and conservation of biodiversity compatible in order to successfully combat climate change. If recognition is maintained, a totally wrong message will be sent to the region and its citizens, and it would compromise the credibility of the European Commission in this matter.
